Panther Rants is The Onion of Pitt Sports. Formerly a serious recruiting blog written by a serious recruiting writer, the site was taken over by mediocre bloggers that provide satire, sarcasm and anything but serious information. Everything on this site is tongue-in-cheek and is not meant for serious consumption.

History

Pantherrants would like to go back 26 years to 1981. This was the last time Pitt football was a real contender in college football. Since that time, it's been mediocre, at best. Actually, Pitt has gone 142-147-6 since Jackie Sherrill packed his junk up and headed to A&M. We've finished ranked 5 times in those 25 years, no higher than 10th (1982). 4 bowl games were won.

Since then, the United States has added 60 million citizens. Therefore, 30% of the country has no memory of Pitt football being a serious player on the national level.

Let's review what was going on the last time Pitt was actually "good." And by good, we mean not a nice little season but counted on to bring a solid squad year in and year out.

- Ronald Reagan becomes president. The first female Supreme Court Justice gets to work. Average income was $19K. Stamps cost $.15. MTV airs for the first time. IBM launches it's first PC. Slaps like Hall & Oates, Foreigner, Journey, and REO Speedwagon were topping the charts. Raiders of the Lost Ark, Porky's, Stripes, and Cannonball Run were the big films (a damn fine year if you ask me). Pacman fever sweeps the nation.

If you don't recognize any of this shit, then you probably aren't a Pitt fan because they've not given you a reason to be during your lifetime.

Nitters live in the past just as much as Pitt fans do. Sad.
